All children should have a full eye examination prior to joining primary school and regularly thereafter. A child’s vision is fully developed by the age of about eight and therefore it is important to correct any visual defects before then in order to avoid lazy eyes and squints developing. So the earlier the monitoring begins, the better the results. Many children under perform at school due to uncorrected vision or problems relating to their sight.

Children’s eye tests are free under the NHS, and we welcome your child to the practice and will be delighted to examine your child’s eyes. Children up to the age of 16 or under in full time education are entitled to a voucher which can be used towards the cost of their spectacles.

At Family Eyecare, we believe that it is important to support your children’s eyes, with glasses that they feel comfortable with in terms of look and feel, and therefore we supply a dedicated children’s collection that will have exactly what your child requires. We carry a large selection of children’s frames of different shapes styles, and colours of a very high standard in flexible metal, titanium, stainless steel or plastic with flexible hinges for added strength. The frames range from a budget to designer labels.

Contact lenses for children can often be an option for recreational use and sports. Our experienced optometrists will be happy to discuss the options with you. Our current childrens range includes the following
